A Shadow Of Hearts

Tonight, the stench of city air
Stuck in my nostrils
the way sorrow sticks to the chest,
and lonely invades the flesh,
the way love or
the lack there of
Lingers...
invisibly upon the tongue
like a whisper or a scream,
like the memory of
your touch,
running your fingers through my hair
instead of this dull, ghostly breeze
that shakes me the knees of
despair
Sticky, hot and thick
like sweat, like
silence...
settling deep into these bones
of an alabaster moon,
transparent,
beaming from a black/white sky
shaped by the stars
that cast
a shadow of hearts
within this vacancy of
a smoky room rendezvous
of one
locked beyond its barren walls
with a steady ache,
looking out through the windows of
this soul burning,
staring into the something
that equals only nothing
and leaves me without you
completely and nakedly
empty...
